Trade-In Terms & Conditions
These terms govern the PC Vitamins Trade-In Programme. By submitting a device for trade-in assessment, you agree to the following conditions.
Introduction
The PC Vitamins Trade-In Programme ("Trade-In Programme") allows customers to exchange used electronic devices for cash, in-store credit, or online store credit at pcvitamins.store.
By submitting a device for trade-in assessment, you ("Seller") agree to these Trade-In Terms and Conditions. These terms operate alongside our General Terms & Conditions.
PC Vitamins reserves the right to modify the Trade-In Programme, accept or decline any device, and amend these terms at any time. Current terms are available at this page and displayed in-store.
Device Eligibility
The following device types are eligible for the Trade-In Programme:
- Smartphones (all brands)
- Laptops and MacBooks
- Tablets and iPads
- Desktop computers
- Gaming consoles
- Smartwatches and wearables
- Screens and monitors (subject to assessment)
- Selected accessories and peripherals (subject to assessment)
Acceptance of any device is at PC Vitamins' sole discretion and is not guaranteed until a formal assessment has been completed.
Excluded Devices
The following will be declined for trade-in:
- Devices that are reported as stolen or lost in South Africa
- Devices that are iCloud-locked or have any active account lock that cannot be removed
- Devices with a IMEI or serial number that has been tampered with or does not match manufacturer records
- Devices with severe structural damage (crushed, bent beyond use)
- Devices with swollen, leaking, or ruptured batteries that pose a safety hazard
- Counterfeit or replica devices
- Devices for which the Seller cannot demonstrate proof of ownership where reasonably requested
Knowingly presenting a stolen or encumbered device for trade-in is a criminal offence. PC Vitamins will report such cases to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Assessment Process
All trade-in devices are assessed by our trained technicians. The assessment is free of charge and typically takes 15–30 minutes in-store.
Our assessment covers:
- Physical condition — screen, body, ports, buttons
- Functional testing — power, touch, cameras, speakers, microphone, connectivity
- IMEI/serial number verification
- Account lock status (iCloud, Google account, Samsung Find My Mobile, etc.)
- Battery health (where accessible)
Devices must be in a factory-reset or unlocked state to complete the assessment. If the device is locked, you may be asked to unlock it in our presence before the assessment can proceed.
Device Grading
PC Vitamins grades trade-in devices on the following scale, which determines the trade-in value offered:
| Grade | Condition | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Grade A — Excellent | Excellent | Minimal to no visible wear. Screen and body in near-mint condition. All functions working perfectly. |
| Grade B — Good | Good | Light scratches or minor cosmetic marks. All functions fully working. No cracks or dents. |
| Grade C — Fair | Fair | Visible scratches, scuffs, or minor screen marks. Device fully functional. May have light cracking on body. |
| Grade D — Faulty / Parts | Faulty | Cracked screen, physical damage, or functional issues. Valued for parts only. |
Grade assignment is at the sole discretion of our technician based on the assessment. Grading decisions are final unless a clear error is identified.
Trade-In Offer
Following the assessment, our technician will present you with a trade-in offer. This offer is:
- Based on current market conditions, the device grade, model, storage capacity, and demand
- Valid for 48 hours from the time of assessment — after this, the offer may be revised
- Not a guarantee of any minimum value — all offers are discretionary
You are under no obligation to accept the offer. If you decline, your device will be returned to you at no charge.
PC Vitamins reserves the right to withdraw or revise a trade-in offer if subsequent inspection reveals undisclosed faults, or if market conditions change significantly before finalisation.
Payment Options
If you accept the trade-in offer, payment is made in one of the following forms — your choice:
Cash
Paid in ZAR at the time of trade-in. Cash payments are processed in-store and subject to available cash float. For high-value transactions, an EFT may be arranged by mutual agreement.
In-Store Credit
Credit applied to your PC Vitamins in-store account, redeemable against any purchase at the Eastgate store. In-store credit:
- Is transferable by written authorisation
- Does not expire (but is subject to any future programme changes communicated with 30 days' notice)
- Cannot be redeemed for cash
- Earns a 10% bonus on top of the cash value — e.g., a R1,000 cash offer becomes R1,100 in-store credit
Online Store Credit (pcvitamins.store)
Credit issued for use at pcvitamins.store. Online credit:
- Is applied to your pcvitamins.store account
- Earns a 10% bonus on top of the cash value
- Valid for 24 months from the date of issue
- Cannot be converted to cash
- Subject to the Online Store's terms and conditions
Data Wiping
Before submitting your device for trade-in, you are strongly advised to:
- Back up all personal data (photos, contacts, messages, documents)
- Sign out of all accounts (iCloud, Google, Samsung Account, social media apps)
- Perform a factory reset
- Remove any SIM card or memory card
If your device has not been factory-reset before assessment, our technician may perform the reset with your consent as part of completing the trade-in.
Once a factory reset has been performed and the trade-in is complete, data recovery from the traded device is not possible. PC Vitamins is not responsible for any personal data remaining on a device submitted for trade-in, nor for data loss arising from the reset process.
All traded-in devices undergo a thorough data wipe procedure before being refurbished or resold, in line with our Privacy Policy.
Ownership & Legal Title
By submitting a device for trade-in, you confirm that:
- You are the lawful owner of the device, or are authorised by the owner to trade it in
- The device is free from any finance agreement, lease, or hire-purchase under which another party retains title
- The device has not been reported as stolen or lost
- There are no pending legal or insurance claims involving the device
Legal title to the device transfers to PC Vitamins upon finalisation of the trade-in transaction. If a device is later found to be stolen, financed under an outstanding agreement, or otherwise encumbered, PC Vitamins reserves the right to pursue legal remedies against the Seller.
Finalisation of Sale
A trade-in transaction is final and irrevocable once:
- You have signed (or digitally confirmed) the trade-in receipt
- Payment has been made (cash disbursed, credit applied, or EFT initiated)
Completed trade-in transactions cannot be reversed, and PC Vitamins will not return a traded-in device after the transaction is finalised, except where a clear material error occurred during the assessment.
Any error must be raised at the time of transaction or within 24 hours.
Consumer Rights
As a seller under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, you have the right to:
- Receive a clear and honest assessment of your device's value
- Decline the trade-in offer without penalty and have your device returned
- Receive a receipt confirming the transaction
- Lodge a complaint with the National Consumer Commission if you believe your rights have been violated
